Sugar production in Uttar Pradesh likely to improve

Meerut. The Indian Sugar and Bio Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) has indicated that sugar production in Uttar Pradesh may see a slight increase as crushing operations are still ongoing in 22 mills beyond April 15. Sixteen of these mills are located in western UP,
where sugarcane supply remains strong, and operations are expected to continue until the end of April or early May.
ISMA attributes the potential improvement to better average yield and a recent increase in sugar recovery rates. In contrast, Maharashtra’s crushing season has ended, and its production has sharply declined.
Sugar output in Uttar Pradesh is estimated at 91.10 lakh tonnes so far, compared to 101.70 lakh tonnes last year.
The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories has projected a similar figure of 90.95 lakh tonnes.
Despite a year-on-year decline, UP has now overtaken Maharashtra as the top sugar-producing state, as Maharashtra’s production has dropped from 109.15 lakh tonnes to 80.65 lakh tonnes this season.
