Sugar Production: Till 30th November 2024: National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF)
As of November 30th, 2024, India's sugar production stands at 27.9 lakh tonnes, which is a 35% decrease compared to 43.2 lakh tonnes during the same period in 2023. This decline in production is primarily attributed to fewer operational mills and a focus on diverting sugarcane for ethanol production.
Key points to note:
Active sugar mills: This season, 381 mills are operating, down from 433 last year.
Ethanol diversion: Between 40 to 45 lakh tonnes of sugar are expected to be diverted for ethanol production, which will bring the total sugar production for the season to an estimated 280 lakh tonnes.
