The continuation of the Integrated Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aam Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-ASHA) Scheme till 2025-26, which includes the Price Support Scheme (PSS), Bhavantar Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), and Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) Scheme, is a major initiative to support farmers in India.
Key updates:
- Soybean and Groundnut Procurement: The government has significantly increased procurement under the PSS. For soybean, nearly 20 lakh tonnes were procured from farmers across several states, benefiting over 8.4 lakh farmers. The procurement period for soybean was extended in states like Maharashtra and Telangana.
- Groundnut Procurement: Similarly, 15.73 lakh tonnes of groundnut were procured, benefiting over 4.75 lakh farmers. Time extensions for procurement were granted in Gujarat and Karnataka.
- Pulses Procurement: To reduce reliance on imports and boost domestic production, the government approved the purchase of 100% marketable quantities of tur, urad, and lentils. This policy will continue for the next four years, ensuring proper incentives for farmers and reducing import dependence.
This move aims to stabilize farmer incomes and ensure a fair price for their produce, while also enhancing domestic production of key agricultural commodities.
