US, EU’s Targeting of India Deemed Unfair

New Delhi. The US and European Union have become increasingly nervous due to India's purchase of petroleum and defense equipment from Russia.
US President Donald Trump has become so restless that he has clearly announced that the highest tax (tariff) will be imposed on the import of Indian products in America because it buys petroleum from Russia. The interesting fact is that the US and the European Union themselves import many goods from Russia.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement reacting strongly to the US stance, in which the US and European Union's attempt to target India is completely unfair, impractical and baseless and it has been said that like any other country with a big economy, India will also take all necessary measures to ensure its national interests and economic security.
The statement said that the US and the European Union are targeting India because of buying mineral oil from Russia after the Russia-Ukraine dispute started.
The reality is that India started buying mineral oil from Russia at a time when traditional supplier countries started increasing its exports to Europe.
At that time, the US itself had encouraged India to import oil from Russia so that stability could be maintained in the global energy market.
According to the statement, India needs huge imports of mineral oil to meet its internal needs and it was looking for a permanent supplier country that could provide mineral oil at a reasonable price.
Russia was fully capable of this and hence its import was started on a large scale from there. There is nothing wrong in this.
The countries that are criticizing India for importing mineral oil from Russia should first look into their own affairs because they are also importing other goods in large quantities from Russia.
For example, in the year 2024, bilateral trade of goods worth 67.50 billion euros took place between the European Union and Russia, whereas in the year 2023, trade worth about 17.20 billion euros was done in the service sector. The dispute between Russia and Ukraine started in the year 2022. America also continued to import many products from Russia.
