Uttar Pradesh Poised for Excellent Kharif Crop Production

Lucknow. Due to good monsoon rains and favourable weather conditions, this year not only has the sowing area of Kharif crops increased in Uttar Pradesh, but its condition is also better. Although some districts of the state are facing the wrath of floods and rains, but still overall a splendid production of Kharif crops is expected.
This year, till 5 September, the total production area of Kharif crops in Uttar Pradesh has increased to 138.40 lakh hectares, which is 11 percent or 14 lakh hectares more than the sowing area of 124.40 lakh hectares in the same period last year.
Not only this, but the current figure is also 20 percent more than the five-year average area of 115.20 lakh hectares. Various crops are growing well there and there is no report of much damage anywhere.
Compared to last year, the paddy production area in Uttar Pradesh has increased by 13.5 percent to 71.05 lakh hectares during the current Kharif season. This increase is the highest compared to any state in the country.
At the national level, the paddy area has increased by 4.7 percent. There has been a good increase in the sowing of some other crops as well, but the sugarcane area has fallen from 27.25 lakh hectares to 27.05 lakh hectares. It is worth mentioning that Uttar Pradesh is the largest sugarcane producer state in India and after paddy, sugarcane has the largest area there.
Compared to last year, during the current Kharif season, the sowing area of millet in Uttar Pradesh jumped by 34 percent to 11.11 lakh hectares, the maize production area improved by 5-8 percent to 8.20 lakh hectares and the area of sorghum increased by 15.3 percent to 3.09 lakh hectares.
This time in Uttar Pradesh, farmers have also paid good attention to the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds crops. As a result, compared to last year, the production area of Arhar (Tuvar) in the state has increased by 5 percent to 3.79 lakh hectare,
the sowing area of Urad improved by 1.3 percent to 4.63 lakh hectare, the area of groundnut jumped by 32.3 percent to 3.56 lakh hectare and the area of sesame increased by 24.4 percent to 4.39 lakh hectare. The sowing campaign of Kharif crops has almost ended.
