Chana Prices Recover Amidst Increased Buying

New Delhi: Chana prices witnessed a recovery during the current week, driven by limited selling at lower price levels and an improvement in demand. The Chana market received strong support due to rising procurement by pulse millers and robust buying activity at lower price points. It is anticipated that the arrival of Chana in the producing markets (mandis) of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will decline after the middle of the current month. Furthermore, large-scale procurement by the government during the ongoing season could lead to reduced availability in the open market. Although stocks of imported Chana at ports are reported to be adequate, arrivals in domestic markets remain weaker compared to previous levels. Consequently, an atmosphere of recovery and firmness prevails in the market. Driven by increased inquiries from pulse millers, Chana prices recorded a rise of ₹25 per quintal during the current week; with this upward correction, prices at the weekend settled at ₹5,550–₹5,575 per quintal for the Madhya Pradesh line and ₹5,575–₹5,625 per quintal for the Rajasthan line.
Ports
Due to increased selling by importers and sluggish demand, imported Chana witnessed a fluctuation of ₹25–₹50 per quintal this week. Following these price movements, rates settled at ₹5,250–₹5,275 per quintal for Tanzania origin (Mumbai), ₹5,550 per quintal for Australia origin (Nhava Sheva), and ₹5,450 per quintal for Australia origin (Mundra).
