Coriander prices soften, but not too slow
New Delhi. Coriander business has been limited for some time due to low exports and local trade. Although during the current season, coriander production in the country was less than last year, but due to good last year's stock and low exports, prices did not increase, but sources believe that prices may improve in the second fortnight of the current month as arrivals in the markets have decreased. Apart from this, local demand is expected to emerge in addition to improving export demand in the coming days.
It is worth noting that the coriander production in the major producing states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is estimated to be around 1 crore bags this year, whereas last year the production was 1.10 crore bags, in the year 2023 the production was around 1.50 crore bags.
Arrival
Informed sources say that due to about 70/75 percent of the total production coming to the mandis, the arrival in the mandis has started decreasing. Currently, the arrival in Gondal Mandi of Gujarat has come down to 4/5 thousand bags, while in Rajkot, Junagadh, the arrival is of 500/700 bags. In Guna Mandi of Madhya Pradesh, the arrival is 1500/2000 bags and Kumbhraj is 1000/1200 bags. While in Ashoknagar, Neemuch Mandi, the arrival has come down to 500/600 bags. Due to low spot and export demand, the prices of coriander remained subdued in the futures and spot markets during the current week. In the spot markets, the prices of coriander declined by Rs 50/100 per quintal, while in the futures, the price of July closed at Rs 7168 with a decline from Rs 7220 and the price of August closed at Rs 7236 with a decline from Rs 7260, while in the spot markets, the price of coriander eagle is being quoted at Rs 6700/6900 and the price of badaami is being quoted at Rs 6000/6500 per quintal. Sources believe that there is no possibility of a decline in the current prices. Sources believe that with the possibility of demand coming out soon, it is being estimated that prices should rise by Rs 8/10 per kg during the months of July-August.
Low availability
There are reports of less availability of coriander as compared to consumption during the current season. According to an estimate, apart from the production of about 1 crore bags of coriander during the current season, the outstanding stock is believed to be 35/40 lakh bags, while the requirement of coriander including export and local consumption is around 1.50/1.60 crore bags. Sources believe that due to the decrease in production in the country for the second year also, the stock of coriander will remain nominal in the coming season.
