Buying of lentil weak due to availability
Mumbai. Profit booking at higher prices, increased sales and weak buying led to a downward trend in lentil prices during the current week. Due to availability in the producing markets and weak lifting of lentil dal, the buying of lentil by millers remains limited, due to which there is pressure on prices. Lentil exports from Canada during August to February 2024-25 were around 4 lakh tonnes, which is more than the same period last year. In the season 2025-26, sowing area is expected to decrease slightly to 16.9 lakh hectares. Production is expected to decrease to 23.3 lakh tonnes. Due to increase in initial stock, the total supply may be 27.4 lakh tonnes. Due to increased selling by importers and slow buying, imported lentil prices witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal this week and at the end of the week, the prices remained at Mundra Rs. 5950/5975, Hazira Rs. 6000/6025, container Canada Rs. 6150/6200 and Australia Rs. 6200/6250 per quintal. Similarly, Kolkata lentil prices also witnessed a fall of Rs. 25/50 per quintal this week and at the end of the week, the prices remained at Canada Rs. 6050 and Australia Rs. 6100 per quintal.
Delhi
Due to increased buying by dal millers and stockists, Delhi lentil prices witnessed an improvement of Rs. 25 per quintal this week and with this improvement, at the end of the week, the prices of Choti Kota became Rs. 6425, Bundi Rs. 6675, Uttar Pradesh Rs. 6775 and Desi Badi Rs. 6625 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to sluggish buying by stockists and dal millers, prices of masoor in Madhya Pradesh registered a decline of Rs. 50/100 per quintal this week too and with this decline the prices at the weekend remained at Ashoknagar Rs. 6000/6100, Bina Rs. 5900/6200, Sagar Rs. 5800/6100, Damoh Rs. 5800/6300, Indore Rs. 6050/6150, Kareli Rs. 4000/6450 and Katni Rs. 6575 per quintal. Due to increase in selling and slow buying, during the current week, the price of lentil in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal and the price at the weekend remained Bareilly Chhoti 6900/6950 Rs., Moti 6500 Rs., Kanpur 6425 Rs., Lalitpur Moti 5800/5950 Rs., Chhoti 6175/6200 Rs. and Orai 5600/5900 Rs. per quintal.
Others
Due to the effect of all-round fall and sluggish demand, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a fall of Rs. 100 per quintal this week and the price at the weekend remained Barh 6300 Rs., Khusrupur 6200 Rs. and Mokama 6300 Rs. per quintal. Similarly, the price of Raipur lentil also fell by Rs. 50 per quintal this week and remained at Rs. 6350 per quintal at the weekend.
Masoor Dal
Due to weak demand, prices of Masoor Dal witnessed a fall of Rs. 100 per quintal during the current week and the prices remained at Rs. 7400/7450 for Indore, Rs. 7300/7600 for Barh and Rs. 7200/7500 for Khusrupur per quintal at the weekend.
