Lentil prices fall as demand remains calm
Mumbai. Lentil prices declined during the current week due to availability and sluggish demand. According to trade analysts, red lentil production in Canada is expected to decline to 15.40 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 season, which is less than 17.30 lakh tonnes of the previous season. Due to this, exports are also likely to decline by 5% to 13.30 lakh tonnes. Experts said that despite slight improvement in the sowing area, the role of weather will remain important. Signs of drought in Canada are raising concerns. Here, the combined production of Russia and Kazakhstan can reach 8 lakh tonnes, while the production estimate in Turkey is between 3.40 to 4 lakh tonnes, which is 16% less than last year. The arrival of new crop has started in Turkey. Due to sluggish demand, no increase or decrease was observed in the prices of imported lentils this week and at the end of the week, the prices remained at Mundra Rs. 5925, Hazira Rs. 6000, container Canada Rs. 6150/6200 and Australia Rs. 6150/6200 per quintal. While the prices of Kolkata lentils also improved by Rs. 25 per quintal this week and remained at Canada Rs. 6100 and Australia Rs. 6200 per quintal at the end of the week.
Delhi
Due to sluggish buying by dal millers and stockists, a decline of Rs. 25/50 per quintal was observed in the prices of Delhi lentils this week and with this decline, the prices remained at Rs. 6625 for small quota, Rs. 6875 for Bundi, Rs. 7025 for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 6625 per quintal for desi badi at the end of the week. Due to sluggish buying by stockists and dal millers, prices of masoor in Madhya Pradesh registered a decline of Rs. 100/200 per quintal this week too and with this decline the prices at the weekend remained at Ashoknagar Rs. 6100/6150, Bina Rs. 6000/6200, Sagar Rs. 5900/6200, Damoh Rs. 6000/6625, Indore Rs. 6000/6050, Kareli Rs. 5350/6290 and Katni Rs. 6575 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
Due to increase in selling and slow buying, during the current week, Uttar Pradesh lentil prices witnessed a decline of Rs 50/100 per quintal and at the weekend, Bareilly Choti Rs 7000/7050, Moti Rs 6650, Kanpur Rs 6525, Lalitpur Moti Rs 6200/6250, Chhoti Rs 6400/6500 and Orai Rs 5700/6100 per quintal.
Others
Due to the impact of all-round decline and lack of demand, Bihar lentil prices witnessed a decline of Rs 100 per quintal this week and at the weekend, prices remained stable at Barh Rs 6400, Khusrupur Rs 6300 and Mokama Rs 6400 per quintal. While, no movement was seen in Raipur lentil prices this week and at the weekend, the price remained stable at Rs 6275/6300 per quintal.
Masoor Dal
Due to weak demand, prices of Masoor Dal witnessed a fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and the prices remained at Rs. 7500/7600 for Indore, Rs. 7300/7600 for Barh and Rs. 7200/7500 per quintal for Khusrupur at the weekend.
