Sporadic arrival of new crop has started in Kota - prices are soft

Here’s a brief summary of the weekly review on mustard prices and market conditions for February 1-7:

  • New Crop Arrivals: The arrival of the new mustard crop has started in the Kota market of Rajasthan, but the price is lower than that of older stock. Despite a potential 5-7% decrease in mustard production in Rajasthan due to reduced sowing area and unfavorable weather, there has been no significant impact on prices yet.

  • Rajasthan Production Outlook: The sowing area in Rajasthan has decreased by about 14% from last year, and mustard production is expected to drop from 62.56 lakh tons to 55.55 lakh tons.

  • Mustard Prices:

    • 42% condition mustard prices saw a dip by Rs 50, reaching Rs 6000 per quintal in Delhi. In Jaipur, it improved slightly by Rs 25, reaching Rs 6125 per quintal.
    • Other major mustard-producing states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat showed limited price fluctuations.
  • Mustard Oil: No significant changes in mustard oil prices. The price of expeller oil remained stable at Rs 1280 per 10 kg in Delhi. Kachi Ghani oil price dropped slightly in Morena by Rs 10, but increased in Jaipur to Rs 1270 per 10 kg.

  • Arrival Data: The daily mustard arrival at the national level ranged between 1.40 lakh to 2.00 lakh bags (each bag being 50 kg). However, producers are facing low stock, while NAFED holds good stock to support future purchases at the minimum support price (MSP).

  • Mustard Cake (DOC): Weak demand for mustard cake and DOC (De-oiled Cake) has resulted in low incomes for crushers and processors. The MSP for mustard cake has been raised by Rs 300, from Rs 5650 to Rs 5950 per quintal.
