Good arrivals of new paddy continue in the markets - Rice prices remain weak

New Delhi. The supply of Kharif paddy, especially Basmati, is increasing in important markets of major producing states. In states like Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu, non-Basmati or general grade paddy is also arriving in large quantities, but government agencies are procuring it from farmers at the minimum support price.
Festival Holidays
According to data received, although the market was closed for two to three days during the week of October 18-24 due to the festival, farmers unloaded a significant amount of paddy during the trading days.
Arrivals
On October 22, around one lakh bags of paddy arrived at Delhi's Narela Mandi, and amid normal trading, the price of 1121 paddy declined by Rs 91 to Rs 42.61 per quintal. Meanwhile, the price of 1509 combine paddy improved by Rs 30 per quintal. The arrival of paddy in Najafgarh Mandi also increased, reaching 10,000 bags.
Chhattisgarh
While there was not much stock of paddy in the markets of Chhattisgarh, the supply in Amritsar, Punjab, reached 100,000 bags. However, due to weak demand, prices of 1509 and 1718 varieties of paddy declined. In Tarn Taran, 40,000-45,000 bags of paddy were supplied, and prices softened by 50-55 rupees.
Uttar Pradesh
Whenever trading took place in various markets of Uttar Pradesh, farmers made every effort to unload and sell Basmati rice. On October 24, 25,000 bags arrived in Etah, 60,000 bags in Shahjahanpur, 40,000 bags in Aligarh, and 25,000 bags in Khair Mandi on October 18. However, there was not much fluctuation in the prices of paddy in these markets.
Haryana
10,000 bags of paddy arrived in Tohana Mandi, Haryana. Meanwhile, a large quantity of paddy arrived in Rajasthan's Kota and Bundi markets on October 24th. With the rains subsiding and the weather clearing, the pace of paddy harvesting is accelerating.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, its trading volume was slightly lower than normal during the week under review. Traders and processors were less active, and exporters also saw a decline in interest. In Bhatpara, the price of Shriram rice fell by ₹100 to ₹6,100 per quintal. In Amritsar, 1509 Sela rice also declined by ₹100.
Uttarakhand
Rice prices in Uttarakhand's Nagar Mandi declined by ₹150 to ₹250 per quintal. Rice prices remained stable at previous levels in Karnal, Haryana, and Naya Bazaar, Delhi.
