Mixed trend in paddy-rice as per demand of millers and exporters
Mixed Trend in Paddy and Rice Prices
The paddy-rice market experienced a mixed trend in prices during the week of February 22-28, driven by varying demands from millers and exporters. Limited fluctuations were observed in the prices due to differences in the arrival rates at various mandis and the ongoing demand from processors and millers.
Paddy Market Overview:
Delhi:
- The arrival of paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi saw a sharp decline, dropping from 14,000 bags to just 3,000 bags.
- The price of 1509 hand and 1718 paddy dropped by Rs 90 and Rs 147, settling at Rs 2,650 and Rs 2,825 per quintal, respectively.
- A lower arrival of around 1,000-1,500 bags was noted at Najafgarh Mandi.
- In contrast, Vishnu Bhog paddy in Bhatpara saw a price increase of Rs 300, reaching Rs 5,000 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh:
- Several mandis in Uttar Pradesh reported daily arrivals of 3,000-5,000 bags of paddy, with notable activity in Etah, Mainpuri, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, and Khair mandis.
- The price of paddy fluctuated by Rs 50-100 per quintal across these locations.
General Paddy Arrival:
- The arrival of Kharif season paddy in various mandis remains negligible, while the supply of Basmati paddy continues to fluctuate.
- The arrival of Rabi season paddy is expected to begin in April, with government procurement set to start at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Rice Market Overview:
Bhatpara (West Bengal):
- Rice saw a positive demand increase, which led to a price hike of Rs 100-200 per quintal in several mandis.
- Prices for Shriram and Vishnu Bhog rice in Bhatpara rose by Rs 100 each, reaching Rs 6,300/6,400 per quintal and Rs 8,500/8,600 per quintal, respectively.
- The demand for 1121 Sela rice also rose in Amritsar due to the approaching Ramzan in Gulf countries, increasing its price by Rs 150 to Rs 7,900/8,000 per quintal.
- However, the price of 1401 Steam rice dropped by Rs 150 to Rs 5,900/5,950 per quintal.
Rajasthan:
- The prices of 1121 and Sugandha rice in Bundi Mandi saw a slight increase, indicating a stable demand.
Haryana and Delhi:
- In Haryana's Karnal market, prices for 1718 Sela, 1718 Steam, and Sharbati Sela rice fell by Rs 300 per quintal.
- Delhi's Naya Bazar and other markets saw rice prices remain unchanged from previous levels.
Conclusion: The paddy and rice markets have witnessed varying price trends due to differences in demand and supply. While some regions saw price increases due to better demand (especially for rice and certain varieties of paddy), others experienced price reductions due to weak demand and lower arrivals. The paddy market is expected to remain stable until the arrival of the Rabi season paddy in April.
