Paddy prices stable but rice prices rise
New Delhi. There is no or negligible arrival of paddy in the important markets of most of the major producing states of the country and its prices are also not fluctuating much. But the domestic and export demand for rice remains strong, the effect of which is being seen on its price. During the week from 30 August to 5 September, the price of paddy either remained stable or slightly increased, but the price of rice increased by 200-300 rupees per quintal.
Delhi
During the week under review, daily arrival of paddy in Delhi's Narela Mandi was only between 600 to 1200 sacks and amid limited trading, the price of only 1509 hands of paddy improved by 80 rupees to reach 3182 rupees per quintal. For example, 4000 bags of paddy were supplied daily in Bhatpara Mandi of Chhattisgarh and 5000-8000 bags in Rajim, but prices remained almost stable.
Punjab/Amritsar
5000 bags of paddy arrived in Amritsar, Punjab on 5th September but prices remained stable. Despite the arrival of 1000-5000 bags of paddy in Shahjahanpur Mandi of Uttar Pradesh, there was no change in prices.
Haryana
700 bags of paddy arrived in Tarawadi Mandi of Haryana on 4th September and 2000 bags on 5th September. Prices remained stable in Kota and Bundi Mandi of Rajasthan with daily arrival of 500-700 bags of paddy.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, due to good demand for it, prices saw a rise. In Bhatpara, the price of HMT rice improved by Rs 100 and reached Rs 5200/5300 per quintal. Karnataka
Meanwhile, in Karnataka's Raichur market, the prices of rice of different varieties and categories rose by 100 to 250 rupees per quintal. In Punjab's Amritsar too, the price of rice rose by 200 rupees per quintal, while the prices remained stable in Rajim.
Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand's Nagar market, the prices of Sugandha, Sharbati Pusa Basmati category rice rose by 100-150 rupees per quintal.
Rajasthan
In Bundi, Rajasthan, the price of Sugandha rice improved by 100 rupees to 5500/5550 rupees per quintal and the price of 1718 Sela rice jumped by 300 rupees to 6800/6850 rupees per quintal.
Haryana
In Haryana's Karnal Mandi, the price of 1509 Sela increased by Rs 400 to Rs 6300 per quintal, while the price of other varieties also increased by Rs 100-200 per quintal.
Delhi
In Delhi's Naya Bazar, the prices of most varieties of rice increased by Rs 100-150 per quintal. Exporters are showing good interest in buying rice.
