Pea prices soften due to sluggish demand

Kanpur. Last week, the pea market witnessed a softening trend. Prices remained under pressure due to profit booking at high prices and weak buying. Along with this, the fall in gram prices also affected the purchase of peas, due to which the purchase of pulses millers remained limited. Record production expected due to increased acreage in Canada. In view of better margins and the benefit of crop cycle, sowing of peas has increased in Canada in the year 2025. Partial harvesting has already started, especially in southern Saskatchewan, while most of the crop will be ready in a few weeks. According to official estimates, the total pea production in Canada this year can reach 35 lakh tonnes, which will be about 15% more than 2024 and the highest level in the last 5 years. Yellow Peas: 27.5 lakh tons (+15%), Green Peas: 5 lakh tons (+20%) & Other Varieties: 1.75 lakh tons (+44%) However, prices of Canadian yellow peas have declined by 12% in the last two months, due to which pressure is being felt in the market. Final production of yellow peas in Russia is estimated to be 4.25–4.75 lakh tons. Demand is expected to remain from traditional buyers like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey, which may support global trade. Due to slow selling, there was no increase or decrease in the prices of imported peas during the current week and prices remained stable at Mumbai Canada Rs. 3550, Russia Rs. 3325, Currency Canada Rs. 3375/3400 and Russia Rs. 3200 per quintal over the weekend. While the prices of Calcutta peas also declined by Rs 25 per quintal this week and remained at Canada Rs 3700 and Russia Rs 3400/3500 per quintal. Due to calm buying, there was no rise or fall in the prices of Kanpur peas this week and the prices remained stable at Rs 3550/3650 per quintal at the weekend. While the prices of Lalitpur peas declined by Rs 100/150 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs 3100/3350 per quintal at the weekend. Due to customer support, Orai peas declined by Rs 50 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3100/3250 per quintal at the weekend. Similarly, Mahoba peas also declined by Rs 50 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3400/3600 per quintal. Due to sluggish demand, there was no increase or decrease in the prices of peas in Madhya Pradesh last week and the prices remained at Rs. 3200/3350 in Bina and Rs. 3250/3325 per quintal in Damoh at the end of the week.

Due to sluggish demand, the prices of pea dal declined by Rs. 50 per quintal during the last week and with this decline, the prices remained at Rs. 3950/4000 in Kanpur and Rs. 4100/4200 per quintal in Indore at the end of the week.
