Weekly Review - Wheat
20-Sep-2025 08:23 PM
Good arrivals and limited demand led to a softening of the wheat market
New Delhi. Wheat prices generally softened during the week of September 13-19 due to good arrivals in important wholesale markets in major producing states and limited buying by millers and processors. In Delhi, prices fell by ₹15 to ₹2,810/₹2,840 per quintal. Arrivals in Delhi on September 13th were 13,000 bags of wheat, which declined to 6,000 bags on September 19th.
Stocks/Sales
Wheat prices also declined slightly in important markets in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh due to limited trading. The central government has allocated a quota of 3 million tonnes of wheat for sale from its stocks through the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
Auction
No specific date has been announced for the weekly e-auction. Wheat prices in wholesale markets have remained stable within a certain range with limited fluctuations, so the government is in no hurry to launch the OMSS.
Demand/Consumption
It is expected that prices may rise in October due to the peak festive season, as demand and consumption for wheat and its products increase, and government wheat sales may then begin. After this, the off-season for wheat supply begins, which continues until March.
Rajasthan
During the week under review, wholesale wheat prices rose by ₹50 to ₹2525/₹2700 per quintal in Kota, Rajasthan, but fell by ₹35 to ₹2530/₹2575 per quintal in Bundi.
Madhya Pradesh
Wheat prices remained weak in Ujjain, Dabra, and Itarsi, while they remained nearly stable in other markets. Similarly, wheat prices fell by ₹25-50 per quintal in Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Sitapur, Gonda, and Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh.
Gujarat
Wheat prices remained stable at previous levels in Rajkot, Gujarat, and Jalna, Maharashtra. The wheat sowing season is near, and the support price will be announced soon.
