New Delhi: Standing wheat crops have been affected in several northern, central, and northwestern states of India due to strong winds accompanied by unseasonal rainfall, raising concerns over both yield and quality.
In Rajasthan, government wheat procurement in the Kota division was initially scheduled to begin on March 10 but could not start due to technical issues. The date was later revised to March 16; however, procurement remained suspended in many areas until March 18. The state government has announced a bonus of ₹150 per quintal over the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal for farmers.
In Uttar Pradesh, wheat procurement in Sambhal district is set to begin from March 25, with a target of 48,000 tonnes across 62 procurement centers. Meanwhile, in Mathura, storms and rainfall have caused significant damage to wheat crops.
In Madhya Pradesh, the area under premium Sharbati wheat in Sehore has declined considerably. In Hathras, crops have suffered partial damage, and in some regions, grain quality has also been adversely affected due to the adverse weather conditions.
