Commitment of Traders data showed that in the week ending April 7, spec funds in CBT wheat flipped back to a net short position of 5,633 contracts after a move of 14,274 contracts during the week.
In KC wheat, managed money held a net long position of 15,608 contracts, which was reduced by 5,909 contracts during the week. In MPLS wheat, spec funds extended their record net long by 205 contracts to 20,361 contracts.
Thursday’s Export Sales report showed total wheat export commitments at 24.441 MMT, which is 13% higher than last year. This matches the USDA estimate and is in line with the average sales pace.
As of April 2, wheat shipments totaled 20.379 MMT, which is 18% higher than last year. This represents 83% of the USDA forecast and is slightly ahead of the average shipping pace.
