Wheat production likely to decrease slightly in Uttar Pradesh

The wheat production outlook for Uttar Pradesh in the 2024-25 Rabi season is slightly negative, with a forecasted decline of 0.6% to 320.50 lakh tonnes.
This decrease is attributed to a 0.4% reduction in the wheat sowing area and less-than-ideal crop conditions in certain areas of the state.
In contrast, wheat production in Madhya Pradesh is expected to increase by 8% due to a 4.2% increase in the sowing area and favorable weather conditions. Other states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal are also likely to see production increases.
On a national scale, the overall wheat production is expected to rise by 8.2% to 1098.50 lakh tonnes compared to the previous season.
However, the Union Agriculture Ministry's target of 1150 lakh tonnes may be challenging to meet, though the production is expected to exceed the 2023-24 season's output of 1132.90 lakh tonnes.
The primary concern now is the weather in March, as the Meteorological Department has predicted a significant rise in day and night temperatures, which could impact crop yields
