New Delhi: Rapid wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan is boosting central stocks, with farmers receiving Rs 2600/quintal and Rs 2575/quintal respectively.

As per I Grain India, if the trend continues, total procurement may cross 280 lakh tonnes, easing the launch of the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) and allowing more wheat to be offered under it.

The Food Ministry has set a target of 313 lakh tonnes and is optimistic about achieving it. With improving production and procurement, the need for wheat imports appears minimal, while export demands may rise.

However, the government is likely to retain the 40% import duty and keep exports restricted, prioritizing domestic supply stability.
