Other buyer countries of Australian lentils include Bahrain, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Mauritius, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates (UAE) etc.
The African country Egypt imported about 35 thousand tonnes of lentils from Australia during this period and remained the fourth largest buyer of Australian lentils after India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Old stock of lentils is still present in Australia, so more than one lakh tonnes of pulses are being exported from there every month.
This trend is likely to continue in August-September as well. Harvesting of new crop from October is likely to continue in September as well.
Preparation for harvesting of new crop will start there from October. During the 2024-25 season, lentil production in Australia is likely to be around the same as in the 2023-24 season, due to which its huge import in India can happen by March 2025.
