Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a focused scheme to promote the production of 11 major agricultural commodities, aiming to boost farmer income, crop yield uniformity, and average productivity. The initiative is part of the 'Swarna Andhra - 2047 Vision', which targets a $2.40 trillion economy by 2047.
The state has set a 15% annual growth target for agriculture. Key crops identified include paddy, maize, jowar, bajra, urad, tuvar, gram, groundnut, sesame, cotton, and tobacco. With the growing use of maize in ethanol production, officials say this could bring added benefits to farmers.
According to the Agriculture Department, these crops serve multiple purposes—ranging from food to animal feed, poultry, and biofuel.
The government plans to strengthen all foundational aspects to ensure long-term sustainable agricultural growth.
