Australia Pulses Market and Sowing Update
Chickpeas
★ Chickpea prices are currently around AUD $860/tonne (November–December delivery to Brisbane). Farmers are focused on sowing and are holding off on forward selling for now.
★ India recently reduced its import duty on chickpeas to 10%, but this has had little impact on Australian export prices.
★ India has already imported large volumes of chickpeas from Australia and has also harvested a decent domestic crop.
★ Whatever stock was left has been picked up by Pakistan. Australian chickpea stocks are now quite low.
★ Another strong crop is expected in the upcoming season, provided the weather remains favourable.

Lentils
★ The market remains stable with Nipper lentils at AUD $850/tonne (delivered port) and Jumbo types at $900/tonne.
★ Rain is expected in the next 1–4 weeks, which could support the development of the new crop.
★ Canadian lentils are significantly cheaper than Australian ones, and Canada is expecting a good harvest this year.
★ Demand from India is weak, while Sri Lanka continues to buy modest volumes.
★ Sowing has begun for both chickpeas and lentils in Australia. If weather conditions remain favourable, another good harvest is likely.
