New Delhi. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has projected that India's soybean production for the 2025-26 season is likely to decline by approximately 2.1 million tonnes—down from 12.58 million tonnes in the 2024-25 season—to settle at 10.5 million tonnes. This estimate aligns closely with the projections made by a leading Indian industry body, the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA).
According to the USDA report, the total availability of soybeans in India for the current 2025-26 marketing season is expected to stand at 11.56 million tonnes. This figure comprises a carry-over stock of 0.66 million tonnes from the previous season, a projected production of 10.5 million tonnes, and an anticipated import volume of 0.4 million tonnes.
Out of this total stock of 11.56 million tonnes, domestic consumption is estimated at 10.88 million tonnes, while exports are projected at 20,000 tonnes; consequently, a residual stock of 0.66 million tonnes is expected to remain at the end of the season.
During the 2024-25 season, a carry-over stock of 0.93 million tonnes was available; combined with a production volume of 12.58 million tonnes, the total availability reached 13.52 million tonnes. From this total, 12.85 million tonnes were utilized for domestic consumption and 10,000 tonnes were exported, leaving a surplus stock of 0.66 million tonnes at the conclusion of the marketing season.
