Kochi: After reaching new record levels in July 2025, the prices of copra and coconut oil have started to soften. Prices have fallen significantly in the last few days.

Last week, the price of copra in Tamil Nadu fell by ₹5 to ₹172 per kg, and the price of coconut oil dropped by ₹3 to ₹243.50 per kg. Prices also softened in Kerala, where copra was priced at ₹196 and coconut oil at ₹332 per kg. The retail price of coconut oil was recorded at ₹360.

It is noteworthy that in July 2025, the price of coconut oil had surged to a peak of ₹393 per kg, and copra to ₹261 per kg.

During the Onam festival, the retail market price of coconut oil had even reached a record high of ₹470 per kg, which has now come down to ₹360.

The president of the Cochin Oil Merchants Association (COMA) says that the commencement of the new harvest season is putting pressure on the prices of coconuts and their products.

Furthermore, weak local and inter-state demand at higher prices, coupled with increased supply, has led to a market downturn.

A surplus production of coconuts and copra is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu during the current season, which is likely to lead to further softening of copra and coconut oil prices in the coming months.
