Los Angeles. Exports of almonds from California, the leading almond-producing state in the US, have declined this year, and domestic demand and consumption in the US have also decreased.
It is noteworthy that California exports large quantities of almonds to many countries around the world, including India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, Italy, the Netherlands, Morocco, Germany, Japan, and China. India is considered a major importer.
According to available data, in the first 11 months of the current calendar year, i.e., January-November 2025, a total of 1.392 million tons of almonds were exported from California, which is 6 percent less than the 1.481 million tons shipped during the same months of 2024. Similarly,
domestic consumption of almonds in the US during this period decreased by 19 percent, or 102,000 tons, from 529,000 tons to 427,000 tons. Thus, the total amount of almonds shipped from California,
including exports and domestic use, was 1.818 million tons, which is about 10 percent less than the 2.81 million tons of the previous year. Compared to January-November 2024,
California's almond exports during January-November 2025 decreased to 270,000 tons from 218,000 tons to India, from 149,000 tons to 138,000 tons to the United Arab Emirates, from 115,000 tons to 108,000 tons to Turkey,
from 96,000 tons to 64,000 tons to the Netherlands, from 56,000 tons to 51,000 tons to Germany, from 46,000 tons to 45,000 tons to Japan, and from 493,000 tons to 422,000 tons to other countries.
On the other hand, exports of this important dry fruit increased to Spain from 108,000 tons to 128,000 tons, to Vietnam from 51,000 tons to 94,000 tons,
to Italy from 61,000 tons to 71,000 tons, and to Morocco from 35,000 tons to 52,000 tons. India has seen a decrease in almond imports from California in recent months.
