Canada Market and New Crop Seeding Estimates
Peas
★ Seeding of peas is underway in Canada, but current reports indicate a 16% decline in pea acreage.
★ Speculations around China’s 100% import tariff and India’s import deadline of May 31 may lead farmers to reduce pea seeding.
★ Pea prices have shown softness. Yellow peas are priced at \$10.75/bu delivered, while new crop yellow peas are trading at $8.50–$9.00/bu.
★ Old crop green peas (grade #2) are around $16.00/bu, and new crop is at approximately $12.50/bu.
★ From August to April 27 this season, 1.533 million tonnes of peas have been exported, compared to 1.745 million tonnes during the same period last year.
★ Only 400 tonnes of peas were exported in the week ending April 27, compared to 50,100 tonnes the previous week.
★ Pea export volumes may decline until the arrival of the new crop.

Lentils
★ The market remains steady with no price changes. Acreage is expected to increase.
★ Red lentils are steady at 33 cents/lb in the spot market and 29 cents/lb for new crop.
★ Old crop large green lentils are trading at 48–50 cents/lb, and new crop at 41–42 cents/lb.
★ Small green lentils are trading at 43–44 cents/lb for old crop and 37–38 cents/lb for new crop.
★ From August to April 27 this season, 854,000 tonnes of lentils have been exported, compared to 638,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
★ Only 7,000 tonnes were exported in the week ending April 27, compared to 6,000 tonnes the previous week.
★ Export volumes may decline in the coming weeks.

Kabuli Chickpeas
★ The market remains steady.
★ Chickpeas with 40% or more 9mm sized kernels are trading at $0.39–$0.40/lb.
★ For higher shares of 7 and 8mm sized kernels, there is a price spread of $0.05–$0.06/lb.
★ New crop prices are around $0.34/lb (on-farm).
★ Growers are showing low interest in forward contracting.
