Castor Production Likely to Decline by 8%: SEA
★ According to a survey conducted by the Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA), the castor production in the country is expected to be 18.22 lakh tonnes this year, which is 8% lower than last year’s production.
★ In Gujarat, the production is anticipated to be 14.75 lakh tonnes, a 6% decline compared to the previous year. Rajasthan's production is expected to fall by 9% to 2.85 lakh tonnes, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana may experience a 33% reduction, with an expected output of just 0.52 lakh tonnes.
★ The castor sowing took place in July-August, but excessive rainfall has caused damage to the crop, leading to replanting in several areas.
★ According to the Agriculture Department, this year, sowing was carried out on 8.68 lakh hectares, which is 12% less than the previous year. In Rajasthan, the area has decreased by 12%, to 1.7 lakh hectares, while in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it has dropped by 38%, covering just 33,500 hectares.
