According to the estimates released by Federation of Indian Spice Stock Holders (FISS) in the ninth Spice Annual Conference held recently in Goa, during the current season, the production of coriander, fennel and cumin in the country is considered to be less than last year, while fenugreek production has increased.

Coriander

According to the estimates released by FISS, coriander was sown on 3.37 lakh hectares in the major producing states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan, while last year the sowing area was 3.64 lakh hectares. Due to the decrease in sowing, the production is estimated to be 1.10 crore bags (each bag is 40 kg) as compared to 1.15 crore bags last year.

Cumin

In the major producing states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, cumin was sown on 11.71 lakh hectares for this season, whereas last year it was sown on 12.64 lakh hectares. Due to poor sowing and reduced productivity per hectare, this year cumin production has been estimated at 97.93 lakh bags, whereas last year the production was estimated at 1.12 crore bags (each bag of 55 kg).

Fennel

Fennel sowing was badly affected due to the producers not getting a fair price for their produce. For the year 2025, fennel was sown on only 92 thousand hectares, whereas for the year 2024, the sowing area was 1.97 lakh hectares. That is, a sharp decline of 53 percent was recorded. Due to decrease in sowing, the production of fennel is also estimated to be 18.68 lakh bags (each bag is 55 kg) as against 38.58 lakh bags last year.

Fenugreek

However, the area of sowing has increased marginally in the major producing states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan. But due to favorable weather, there is news of fenugreek production being higher than last year due to increased productivity per hectare. According to the information received, fenugreek has been sown on 1.30 lakh hectares as against 1.28 lakh hectares last year. While the production is estimated to be 17.16 lakh quintals. Last year, the production of fenugreek was estimated to be 16.61 lakh quintals.
