Cotton futures on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) posted losses of 15 to 20 points on Friday, though the March contract held a weekly gain of 105 points. Crude oil futures were down 3 cents per barrel at $62.81. The U.S. Dollar Index fell 0.067 to 96.770. Markets will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents' Day.
USDA Export Sales data showed cotton export commitments at 8.034 million running bales (RB), 12% below last year. This represents 71% of USDA’s revised export projection, compared to the 88% average pace, indicating slower exports.
CFTC data showed speculators adding 3,856 contracts to their net short position in the week ending February 10, bringing managed money’s total net short to 75,602 contracts.
The Seam reported sales of 15,617 bales on February 12 at an average price of 57.90 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index rose 25 points on Thursday to 73.55 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks increased by 3,808 bales on February 12 to 106,040 bales. The Adjusted World Price declined to 49.39 cents per pound, down 39 points from last week.
