Domestic Masoor (Lentil) Prices Rise by Rs 50 in Delhi Amid Increased Local Demand; Imported Masoor Remains Steady

Driven by rising demand from domestic pulse mills, prices for indigenous (desi) Masoor in the Delhi market increased by Rs 50 per quintal today, while prices for imported Masoor at ports remained stable. Following a consistent decline in prices last week, the market has seen a recovery as demand emerged at lower price levels.

However, the scope for a significant price surge remains limited due to the steady inflow of imported Masoor and favorable production forecasts from Canada.

With the onset of the peak consumption season for Masoor dal, demand is expected to remain firm in Bihar, Bengal, and Assam through the end of November. Furthermore, the high utilization of imported Masoor by domestic pulse mills continues to support its demand. Last week, approximately 97,259 tonnes of imported Masoor arrived at various ports.

Given the positive production outlook for Masoor in both Australia and Canada, the availability of imported stock in the domestic market is expected to persist.

Market Outlook: Domestic demand at lower price levels may provide support to the prices of indigenous (desi) Masoor. However, any major price rally is likely to be constrained by the ample availability of imported Masoor and optimistic production estimates from abroad.
