Edible Oil Firms Asked to Submit Data Under WOPPA Registration

New Delhi. The Union Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution has once again cautioned edible oil manufacturers, processors, tea-packers,
and other related enterprises to immediately register under the Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (WOPPA) Regulation Order 2025 and provide monthly details of production, quantity, and stock of edible oils on the updated WOPPA portal.
In a letter to Babulal Data, President of the Central Organization for Oil Industry and Trade (COAT), the apex body of the domestic vegetable oil industry and trade, the Additional Director General of the Food Ministry stated that the new WOPPA Regulation Order has been implemented in 2025 by amending the 2017 Regulation Order.
The aim is to strengthen regulations, improve data collection in the edible oil industry, and bring greater transparency to the trade and market.
Data will now be collected under the Statistics Collection Act, 2008. This will help better monitor domestic production, imports, and stock levels of edible oils, enabling the government to implement timely policy measures.
The government will know when to increase or decrease import duties on edible oils and how to stabilize prices by increasing domestic supply and availability.
The letter urges the Chairman of KOAT to inform crushers, processors, and packagers who have not yet registered on WOPPA that they can do so through the National Single Window System (NSWS).
They will receive their WOPPA registration certificate within seven days and can then begin submitting their monthly returns on the upgraded WOPPA portal in due course. This is mandatory for all companies.
Companies that have been using the old WOPPA portal will also now be required to submit their monthly returns on the new portal. This has been simplified.
