Hyderabad: The Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association of India (CLFMA) has expressed deep concern regarding the shortage and rising prices of soymeal and has urged the government to intervene immediately in the matter. The association states that soymeal is a crucial protein-rich ingredient used in animal feed.
According to the association, the government needs to take necessary policy decisions promptly to ensure adequate supply and availability of soymeal, protect the interests of farmers and producers, and encourage investment in the soy value chain.
In recent weeks, the price of soymeal has surged by over 40 percent to reach ₹6,500–₹6,600 per quintal, significantly increasing animal feed production costs and drastically reducing producers' earnings.
High prices and supply disruptions are eroding the industry's competitiveness and creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and instability within the country's animal protein value chain.
There is an urgent need to import cheaper GM soymeal from abroad. The plant-delivery price of soybeans has also spiked, crossing the ₹7,000 per quintal mark.
