Good increase in export of value added spice products

New Delhi. During the financial year 2024-25, as compared to the financial year 2023-24, there was an increase in the export of value added spice products from India - spice oil / oleoresin mint products and curry powder / paste etc.
The export quantity of mint products fell slightly from 27,658 tonnes to 27,282 tonnes, but the export income improved from $ 415.4 million to $ 417.8 million.
The export quantity of curry powder and paste increased by 7 percent from 72,420 tonnes to 77,151 tonnes and export income increased by 17 percent from $ 212 million to $ 247.59 million. Exports of spice oil/oleoresin rose 12% from 4.12 lakh tons to 4.53 lakh tons while its earnings rose 8% from $497.98 million to $535.92 million.
Export earnings of black pepper jumped 40% from $889.10 million to $1245.40 million while its export quantity rose 16% from 17890 tons to 20830 tons.
Similarly, a good increase was also registered in the export of small cardamom. Its exports improved 9% from 6168 tons in 2023-24 to 6727 tons in the financial year 2024-25 while its export earnings jumped 53% from $120.52 million to $184.65 million.
During the period under review, the export performance of spices like dry ginger, fennel, tamarind and fenugreek etc. from India was better but the export of coriander declined. India remains the world's leading producer and exporter of spices.
More than 80 varieties of whole spices and spice products are exported from India to more than 100 countries of the world.
Generally, the quality of Indian spices is better than other supplier countries, so its price is also a bit higher. Despite all the global challenges, the export of Indian spices is increasing tremendously, which clearly indicates that Indian spices are very much liked in the international market and especially in quality-loving countries.
The good increase in the export of black pepper is a good sign. Due to better export of cumin, turmeric and cardamom, its producers got good income.
