Government Denies Reports of Plan to Raise Ethanol Blending Target to 27%
★ The government has dismissed media reports claiming that India plans to raise its ethanol blending target to 27%. On Friday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated on social media platform X that such reports are “speculative” and “misleading.”
India is currently operating under the “Ethanol Blending Roadmap 2020–25.”
★ At present, the country is in the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024–25 (November 2024 – October 2025), and the target for the upcoming year remains 20%.
★ From November 2024 to June 2025, India achieved an average ethanol blending rate of 18.9%, with June 2025 recording the highest monthly rate at 19.9%.
★ The government has formed an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to recommend targets beyond ESY 2025–26 (starting November 1, 2025, and ending October 31, 2026).
★ The committee’s report is still pending.
★ The government clarified that no decision has been made regarding a 27% blending target and termed such reports as “mischievous.”
★ Currently, the official ethanol blending target remains at 20%, and no changes have been made regarding a 27% target.
