New Delhi. In view of the ongoing war between India and Pakistan, the Central Government is making every effort to maintain an adequate supply and availability of essential commodities, including food grains, in the domestic market and to keep prices stable.

Citizens are being urged not to panic or resort to bulk buying and hoarding. Efforts are being intensified to strengthen the supply system, particularly in border areas.

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir is visiting border regions, and ten ministers from Punjab have also been deployed to various border districts to monitor the situation.

There is sufficient stock of all essential commodities in the domestic sector, and the Central Government is closely monitoring their prices. Regular communication will be maintained with all stakeholders and supply chain operators to prevent hoarding and black marketing.

Senior officials have stated that the government is prepared to invoke the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 if necessary, to counter speculative activities.

This law empowers the government to classify any product as essential and regulate its production, distribution, marketing, and storage to ensure stable availability and fair pricing for consumers.

The Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution has instructed all relevant officers and field staff to keep a close watch on the markets and continuously monitor prices.

Currently, market conditions are normal, but any sudden or unusual price rise in any region will prompt immediate government action.

Particular focus is being placed on monitoring the markets of food grains, pulses, edible oil, sugar, salt, and spices. While the regular functioning of the market is not being disrupted, steps are being taken to prevent any abnormal developments.
