Government procurement of rice lagged behind
The government’s rice procurement for the current season has shown mixed results. Here’s a summary of the data:

Overall Procurement:
Total rice procurement so far: 200.77 lakh tonnes.
Last year's procurement by the same period: 205.75 lakh tonnes.
Target for the 2023-24 season: 492.11 lakh tonnes (Kharif + Rabi), with an achievement of 525.37 lakh tonnes.

State-Wise Trends:
Punjab: Procurement decreased to 115.53 lakh tonnes, down from 124.25 lakh tonnes last year.
