New Delhi. Although the Trump administration of America is adopting a very tough attitude against India and hence has imposed a huge import duty of 50 percent on many Indian products, India is not perturbed by this and is not going to bow down to American pressure.
The Indian Prime Minister has repeatedly declared from many platforms that the government is committed to ensuring the protection of the interests of the farmers and will never make any compromise against it.
The common citizens of America are also sad and troubled by this tough stand of the US President against India. It is true that Donald Trump is taking such a tough step for the interests of American farmers because India has refused to lift the ban on the import of American corn and soybean. But experts say that this is not the only reason.
Donald Trump and his advisors are waiting for China's response because China is the leading market for import of American agricultural products. America is taking a decision on China after a lot of thought.
Last week, the American Soybean Export Council organized Soya Connect 2025 in Washington, where the Chinese market was especially discussed. For nearly two decades before 2017, the US had been quite lenient towards China as China was exporting huge quantities of American agricultural products,
including soybeans, wheat and maize. China was also rapidly increasing its exports to the US. But in 2017-18, when the first trade dispute arose between the two countries, China acted swiftly and planned to stop imports from the US.
Now once again, China is showing less interest in importing American agricultural products. In the US, the harvesting of the new soybean crop is about to begin in less than a month, but China has not yet signed any advance contract for its purchase and instead is importing expensive soybeans from Brazil.
It seems that China may adopt a similar approach in the purchase of maize as well. China also has many options for the purchase of wheat. This has given sleepless nights to American farmers and policymakers.
Donald Trump is very worried and upset by this. He does not want to lose China's huge market for his agricultural products, so he is currently refraining from imposing high taxes on Chinese products.
