Harvesting of Various Crops Speeds Up in Canada

Ottawa. In Canada, a leading agricultural producing country of the North American continent, preparation for harvesting of various crops usually starts from August, but its pace picks up only after mid-August.
Official data shows that in the initial phase, farmers pay more attention to harvesting winter wheat and pulse crops, while maize and soybean crops are harvested last. The pace of harvesting of canola crop also picks up in September.
According to the report released by the Ministry of Agriculture of Canada, in the current marketing season, by September 1, 2025, 91 percent of the winter wheat crop had been harvested at the national level.
Apart from this, rye was harvested in 88 percent area, peas in 73 percent, lentils in 60 percent, barley in 34 percent and durum wheat in 30 percent area.
Along with this, oats were harvested in 17% area, spring wheat in 14% area, mustard in 10% area and canola in 4% area.
It is noteworthy that Canada remains the world's leading producer and exporter of lentils and canola. Earlier it was also the leader in the production and export of peas, but now Russia has gone far ahead of it.
Canada is included in the list of top five wheat exporting countries. Apart from this, maize, barley, soybean and chickpeas are also exported from there.
India imports huge quantities of lentils and peas from Canada, but in the Indian market, Canadian exporters have to face tough challenges and tough competition from Australia in lentils and Russia in peas.
This time there are indications of better production of lentils and peas in Canada, but its export is happening at a slow pace. The quality of the crop is likely to be affected by the unseasonal rains in July.
