Heavy rain continues in the southern states of India due to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal, which has weakened into a low-pressure area.
The areas still experiencing the brunt of these weather conditions include northern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka.
The rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, is expected to persist in the region throughout the week, and some weather models predict that the rain may continue into next week as well, possibly due to an incoming eastern wave.
This sustained rainfall has already caused significant impacts. Many low-lying areas have flooded, and the heavy rain is expected to affect the sowing of Rabi crops, which could lead to potential crop damage.
The low-pressure system is centered over coastal Karnataka and the east-central Arabian Sea. According to the Meteorological Department, it will intensify on December 4 before gradually weakening and moving away from the west coast.
On December 3, regions such as coastal Karnataka and northern Kerala received extremely heavy rainfall. Other affected areas include northern interior Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Royal Seema, and southern Karnataka.
This ongoing weather system is continuing to cause disruptions, especially in agricultural activities, and is closely monitored by meteorological authorities.
