Chennai: Given the active status of the Southwest Monsoon in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in more than ten of its districts starting June 28.
According to the department, the districts likely to experience torrential rain include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvannamalai. The spell of rain is expected to commence on June 28 (Sunday).
Strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–50 km/h are also expected in the state. In view of these strong winds in the southwestern Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been advised against venturing into the deep sea. This rainfall will aid in the cultivation of Kharif crops across the state.
