Increase in Pulses Exports from Canada in March

Ottawa. Data from Statistics Canada—a Canadian government agency—reveals that, compared to February, the country witnessed a significant increase in the exports of its three major pulses—peas, lentils, and Kabuli chickpeas—during March 2026.
According to available data, Canada exported 189,365 tonnes of peas in February, a figure that surged to 341,067 tonnes in March. Furthermore, during the first eight months of the current marketing season—spanning from August 2025 to March 2026—Canada's total pea exports rose to 1,853,042 tonnes. This figure exceeded the shipments of 1,782,417 tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of the 2024-25 season. In March 2026, Canada exported 154,087 tonnes of peas to China, 67,842 tonnes to Bangladesh, and 62,160 tonnes to India.
As for lentils, exports from Canada increased from 185,675 tonnes in February to reach 252,051 tonnes in March. Similarly, lentil shipments rose from 1,521,506 tonnes during the August 2024–March 2025 period to 1,628,555 tonnes during August 2025–March 2026. In March 2026, India was the largest recipient of Canadian lentils, importing 127,865 tonnes, while shipments of 39,533 tonnes were sent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 19,821 tonnes to Egypt.
The export performance of Kabuli chickpeas also remained strong during this period. According to a report by Stats Can, Canada's exports of Kabuli chickpeas improved from 24,055 tonnes in February to reach 27,924 tonnes in March. Similarly, during the first eight months of the marketing season, shipments rose from 134,968 tonnes to 167,654 tonnes. In March, Canada exported 11,921 tonnes of Kabuli chickpeas to Pakistan, 5,054 tonnes to the United States, and 1,950 tonnes to Italy. The sowing of pulse crops is currently underway in Canada.
