India Export to Sri Lanka
On December 12, 2024, Sri Lanka Customs reported that the private sector has imported 440 metric tonnes of rice from India since December 9, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association has stated that if the customs duty on imported rice is reduced by Rs. 15 per kilogram, it would be possible to sell the rice at the maximum retail price. The association's spokesperson, Nihal Seneviratne, mentioned that importers could supply Nadu rice at around Rs. 220 per kilogram.
He also explained that the distribution network would incur an additional cost of 8% to 10% per kilogram once the rice reaches the wholesale market.
