New Delhi: The Union Commerce Secretary has stated that a delegation of Indian officials will visit the United States from April 20 to 22 for further discussions aimed at finalizing the draft of a bilateral trade agreement.
India intends to finalize the trade treaty with the US as expeditiously as possible. Every possible effort will be made next week to give this trade agreement a formal, legal structure.
Notably, a joint statement regarding an interim trade agreement was issued by both countries in February 2026; this upcoming visit marks the first official meeting between the two nations since then, during which detailed deliberations on the structure of the treaty are expected to take place.
At the time the interim trade agreement was announced, the US had reduced the standard customs duty applicable to Indian products from 25 percent to 18 percent and had completely withdrawn the additional import duty of 25 percent.
