Indonesia remains number one in supply of edible oil to India

Indonesia has maintained its position as the leading supplier of edible oil to India, with total imports reaching 11.44 lakh tonnes between November 2024 and February 2025. The breakdown of Indonesia's edible oil exports to India includes:
- 5.04 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein
- 6.40 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil
- 1,000 tonnes of crude palm kernel oil
Key Suppliers of Edible Oil to India (Nov 2024 – Feb 2025):
- Indonesia – 11.44 lakh tonnes (largest supplier)
- Argentina – 10.86 lakh tonnes (mainly soybean oil and sunflower oil)
- Russia – 8.91 lakh tonnes (primarily sunflower oil)
- Malaysia – 7.21 lakh tonnes (palm-based oils)
- Brazil – 2.74 lakh tonnes (mainly soybean oil)
- Ukraine – 2.71 lakh tonnes (majority sunflower oil)
Apart from these, 2.61 lakh tonnes of edible oil came from other countries, including Thailand, which supplied over 19,000 tonnes of crude palm oil.
Trends in India’s Edible Oil Imports:
- The palm oil group (palmolein, crude palm oil, palm kernel oil) continues to dominate imports, primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia.
- Sunflower oil imports have risen, with Russia emerging as a major supplier.
- Soybean oil imports remain strong, sourced mainly from Argentina and Brazil.
These import patterns highlight India's reliance on multiple global suppliers to meet its edible oil demand.
