Widespread rainfall is expected over the coming week from the Northern Plains through the Eastern Corn Belt (ECB). While this rain may somewhat limit planting progress, it will be beneficial for crops already in the ground. Export Sales data will be released on Thursday. The trade expects old crop corn bookings for the week ending May 8 to range between 0.9 and 1.5 million metric tons (MMT), while new crop sales are estimated between 350,000 and 600,000 metric tons (MT).
According to the EIA's weekly report, ethanol production for the week ending May 9 was 993,000 barrels per day—down 27,000 barrels from the previous week. This marks the first time since September that production has dipped below 1 million barrels per day. Despite the drop in output, ethanol stocks rose by 254,000 barrels to 25.445 million barrels. Refinery inputs also increased by 43,000 barrels, reaching 929,000 barrels per day.
