Ahead of the USDA Grain Stocks report, analysts estimate total corn stocks as of June 1 at 4.625 billion bushels. If realized, this would be 372 million bushels lower than the previous year. The range of estimates lies between 4.459 and 4.798 billion bushels. Monday’s Acreage report is expected to show 95.4 million corn acres, according to a Bloomberg survey, which is about 200,000 acres higher than in March.
The weekly CFTC Commitment of Traders report showed large managed money speculators reduced their net short positions in corn futures and options by 2,506 contracts. As of Tuesday, their net short stood at 182,282 contracts.
Export Sales data shows total corn commitments at 67.574 million metric tons, which is 99% of USDA’s full-year projection and slightly behind the average pace of 100%.
Statistics Canada reported this morning that estimated Canadian corn acreage stands at 3.732 million acres, up 2.2% from a year ago.
