International Cotton Market
On Tuesday, ICE cotton futures fell 52 to 61 points. Outside markets were mixed, with the U.S. dollar index down \$0.183 to \$98.135 and crude oil futures \$1.49 lower.
On Monday afternoon, NASS reported that 71% of the U.S. cotton crop was setting bolls, 6 points behind normal, with 20% of the crop having open bolls, 2 percentage points below average. Crop condition ratings slipped 1% to 54% good/excellent, with the Brugler500 index steady at 349. Ratings in Texas fell 6 points, and Georgia was down 3.
The Seam reported 1,051 bales sold on Monday at an average price of 65.25 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was steady at 78.90 cents on August 22. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged at 15,474 bales on August 22. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was up 48 points last Thursday to 55.53 cents/lb.
