Kharif 2025: Pulses Sowing Gains Momentum, Moong and Urad Lead the Way
★ As the monsoon gathers pace, the sowing of kharif pulses is also picking up speed. So far, 9.44 lakh hectares have been sown—an increase of about 2.8 lakh hectares compared to the same period last year.
★ Moong has shown the strongest growth, with sowing rising by 1.77 lakh hectares to rech 4.43 lakh hectares. Urad has also recorded a notable increase of 0.77 lakh hectares.
★ On the other hand, tur (arhar) sowing has seen a slight dip of 0.13 lakh hectares, now standing at 2.5 lakh hectares.
★ Kulthi, mothbean, and other pulses have also shown positive momentum.
★ Early trends suggest that farmers are giving more preference to moong and urad this season. The coming weeks will be crucial as the monsoon becomes fully active and sowing data from more regions starts coming in.
