Maharashtra Receives 4% Surplus Rainfall in June, but Sowing Progress Remains Slow

Rainfall So Far
★ According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Maharashtra has recorded an average rainfall of 124.2 mm so far, compared to the normal average of 119.2 mm — about 4% higher than usual.

Current Situation
★ The state experienced unusually high rainfall in May, but the monsoon’s progress has slowed down after the first week of June.
★ Nine districts have reported significant rainfall deficiency, while six districts have received excess rainfall.

Advisory to Farmers
★ The Agriculture Department and agricultural universities have advised farmers not to rush into sowing, as a prolonged dry spell during the monsoon could damage crops.

★ Total area sown: 3.359 million hectares (compared to 2.738 million hectares during the same period last year)
★ Latur Division: 0.904 million hectares

★ Cotton: 1.153 million hectares
★ Pulses: 1.023 million hectares
