Major DRI crackdown in Mumbai, consignment of watermelon seeds and green peas seized: IANS
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 132 containers of smuggled watermelon seeds and green peas at Nhava Sheva Port in Mumbai, with the total value estimated at around ₹139 crore.
The consignment was misdeclared as toor dal to bypass government import restrictions.
DRI has arrested the proprietor of the importing firm. Initial investigations suggest the involvement of an organized racket, and further probes are underway to identify other links.
Officials said the case is being treated with utmost seriousness.
